WhatsApp Chats in Family Law Cases

In divorce, custody, and child support cases, much of the coordination occurs via chat: visitation arrangements, payments, and messages about the children.

In family law cases, WhatsApp conversations between parents frequently document parenting time, support payments, and coordination regarding the children. Nispach turns the chat export file into a paginated PDF where each message appears with its date, time, and sender's name, filtered to the relevant date range. The file includes a cover page and an appendix label. Processing takes place on your computer, and the chat, along with all its personal information, is never uploaded to any server. The decision of what to file and how remains with the lawyers and the court.

What typically appears in family case chats

  • Parenting time: Pick-up and drop-off of the children, last-minute changes, cancellations.
  • Finances: Transfers, payment requests, extraordinary expenses for the children.
  • Communication about the children: School, health, holidays, and vacations.
  • Tone of conversation: When a claim concerns the manner of communication, the full conversation over a specific period is more important than a single message.

Only the relevant range

A chat between spouses can span years. Select a date range, and if necessary the senders, and the cover page will accurately state what is included. Multiple appendices can be prepared from the same chat, each covering the range relevant to a specific claim, as explained in Filing a conversation as an appendix.

Family privacy

Family chats contain details about children, health, and money. Nispach reads the file and builds the PDF in the browser, on your computer, and the conversation is not uploaded to a server. It is advisable to retain the original export file and the device, and to consult with a lawyer regarding what to file and how to handle information about the children.

Chats in Hebrew, Arabic, or mixed

Hebrew and Arabic bubbles are displayed right-to-left, and lines combining amounts, times, and English words maintain the correct order. See Arabic chat to PDF.

The chat, organized and private

Drag the export file and view the first three pages for free. The conversation never leaves your computer.

FAQ

Is it possible to file only part of the chat?

Yes, filter by dates and senders, and the cover page will indicate the range. What is appropriate to file in a specific case is a question for the lawyer.

What about photos of the children in the chat?

Media files can be omitted from the appendix or included as thumbnails. The decision of what to include belongs to you and the lawyer.

Can the system be used without a lawyer?

Yes, the system prepares the document for anyone holding the export file. In family law cases, it is highly recommended to consult with a lawyer before filing.
